On board there were 88 passengers and crew when the ship began to sink near the town of Batangas. The help came from boats that were in the vicinity and they saved from drowning 60 people.

Today’s crash was preceded by the collision of the ferry and fishing boat, which took place 24th December. Lifeguards still searching for 24 people who are missing in that sea crash.

Such crash are very common in the archipelago with more than 7100 islands due to a number of tropical storms and badly prescribed by legislation. Only in the last year in an accident after sinking ferry in the central Philippines drowned more than 800 people.

In rescue involved three ships and coast guard helicopter and eight small boats. The cause of the crash is still not known. According to the folk of the media at the time of the crash was not storms that could possibly cause a crash of ships. Most of the passengers were British, including the BBC’s team that went to the northern half to record material for the documentary “Frozen Planet.” Despite the trouble, the passengers were in danger, foreign media reported. It could be much worse shipwreck.

“Captain Hlebnikov” was built in 1981. years for the Soviet Navy, 1990. was converted into a tourist ship with 54 cabins and suites, two restaurants, bar, gym, sauna and swimming pool.

Survivors recalled a gentle shudder that briefly shook the 900 foot long vessel. It came and went so quickly that nobody gave it much of a second thought. Except for the occupants of the Bridge–who in the split seconds before that shipwreck, saw the towering iceberg ahead, floating in their unlighted pathway. The helmsman swerved to miss the iceberg–but they would have been better off to have struck it head on. In narrowly avoiding a head-on collision, they suffered an even worse fate! Three-fourths of the iceberg lay unseen beneath the calm ocean surface. When the Titanic swerved, it brushed the iceberg’s underside on the starboard side of the bow, slitting a quarter of an inch wide opening more than 300 feet down the side of the vessel. Like a titanic can opener, the iceberg knifed open the side of the iron hull. The damage was just enough to cause the metal plates to buckle so that six watertight compartments began taking in sea water.

So scientifically had this great sailing ship been constructed, with 16 watertight compartments in a 1/6 mile long hull, that the captain had made a pre-voyage boast, “Not even God himself could sink her”. The builders had calculated that even if four of the compartments should burst, the ship would still float! But on that starry night, six of them exploded and began to suck in the frigid water of the North Atlantic! Mathematically, the “unsinkable ship” was mortally wounded. And, in two hours she was gone. Commander Lightoller, one of the few crew members who survived the tragedy, described the moment she sank.

Of the 2235 occupants, 1522 met their death in those dark waters including most of the men, most of the third class, most of the crew, and all of the band. Only 713 people were rescued.

And the world lined up for hours to relive their tragic story in the most watched movie ever in human history. Why?

Could it be that Titanic is more than a tale about love and death of heart throbs Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio? Could it be that there’s a deep, subconscious sense the world over that this tragedy at the beginning of the 20th century was in fact a warning parable of an ominous unnamed tragedy that hangs like Damocles’ sword over our planet, while we’re partying to beat the band?

Most of the passengers were said to be Bulgarian. It is alleged the vessel was over its maximum carrying capacity. Police have described the incident as “an enormous tragedy” and expect casualty figures to rise. Lake Ohrid is Macedonias best known tourist resort. There were 73 passengers on board although the boat only had a permit for a maximum of 45.

Passengers leapt into the dark sea, and parents dropped children into life rafts during rescue efforts on the Superferry 9, which turned on its side nine miles off Zamboanga del Norte province.
The vessel’s violent rotation had roused passengers from their sleep and sent many jumping in the darkness into the water, the coastguard chief, Admiral Wilfredo Tamayo, said.
Many people aboard had panicked as the huge ferry listed, said passenger Reymark Belgira. He said he had seen parents tossing children to people on life rafts below, but he could not immediately jump himself.
“I held on to the ferry for hours until daybreak. I couldn’t jump into the water in the dark,” Belgira said.
Rescuers transferred 926 of 968 passengers and crew to two nearby commercial ships, a navy gunboat and a fishing boat, Tamayo said. A search was under way for 33 missing people.
“We really hope they are just unaccounted for due to the confusion,” Tamayo told the Associated Press.
A coastguard statement said rescue efforts had continued throughout the night.
Passenger Roger Cinciron said he felt the ferry tilting at about midnight but a crewman had assured him all was well. About two hours later, he was awoken by the sound of crashing cargo below his cabin, he told DZMM radio.
“People began to panic because the ship was really tilting,” he said as he waited for rescuers to save him and a group of more than 20 other passengers.
Navy ships had been deployed and three military aircraft were scouring the sea, the defence secretary, Gilbert Teodoro, said. US troops providing counter-terrorism training to Philippine soldiers in the region had deployed a civilian helicopter and five boats, some carrying paramedics, to help, US Colonel William Coultrup said.
Teodoro said two men and a child had drowned during the scramble to escape the ship. The bodies of two other passengers were later recovered from the sea by fishermen, the coastguard said.
The cause of the listing was not clear. The ferry skipper had initially ordered everyone on board to abandon ship as a precautionary step, said Jess Supan, vice-president of Aboitiz Transport System, which owns the steel-hulled ferry.
There were reports the 7,268-ton vessel had listed to the right because of a hole in the hull, the national disaster coordinating council said.
Aerial photos from the navy showed survivors holding on to anything as the ferry tilted. Others climbed down a ladder on the side as a lone orange life raft waited below.
The ferry had left the southern port city of General Santos on Saturday scheduled to arrive in Iloilo City, in the central Philippines, on Sunday, but had run into problems midway, Tamayo said.
There were no signs of possible terrorism, he said.
Al-Qaida-linked Abu Sayyaf militants bombed another Superferry in Manila Bay in 2004, setting off a blaze that killed 116 people in south-east Asia’s second-worst terrorist attack.
The weather was generally fair in the Zamboanga peninsula region, about 530 miles south of Manila, although a tropical storm was battering the country’s mountainous north, the coastguard said.
Sea accidents are common in the Philippine archipelago because of tropical storms, badly maintained boats and weak enforcement of safety regulations.
Last year, a ferry overturned after sailing toward a powerful typhoon in the central Philippines, killing more than 800 people on board.
In December 1987, the ferry Doña Paz sank after colliding with a fuel tanker in the Philippines, killing more than 4,341 people in the world’s worst peacetime maritime disaster.
