Tragic sport crash! Cavagnoud during the crash and fall on the head seriously injured the brain, broken arm and several ribs, which broke through the lungs and liver. The ski crash occurred when Cavagnoud in training at full speed (about 100 km per hour) run into a German coach Markus Anwandera. On 1st May 1994, Ayrton Senna’s Williams FW16 left the track at the Tamburello corner on the seventh lap of the San Marino Grand Prix at Imola and crashed with an unprotected concrete barrier. That was one of the biggest sports crashes of all time.
Crash itself was seemingly innocuous because, despite the telemetry later revealing that he was travelling at 193mph when he left the track, the crash itself appeared to be glancing and nobody was prepared for outcome that followed.
Tens of thousands of Italian Formula 1 fans looked on, open mouthed and disbelieving as Professor Sid Watkins performed an emergency tracheotomy on the driver whom he later confessed was already beyond saving. Professor Watkins was later quoted as saying “He looked serene. I raised his eyelids and it was clear from his pupils that he had a massive brain injury. We lifted him from the cockpit and laid him on the ground. As we did, he sighed and, although I am totally agnostic, I felt his soul depart at that moment.”
Ayrton Senna was not pronounced dead at the track and the official line is that he died from his injuries later in hospital. Under Italian law, a death at any sporting event must be investigated and the event cancelled and this has led to speculation that he was artificially kept alive, despite his brain having died, until he had reached the hospital. This appears to be confirmed in the post-mortem report although this too has since been contested.

7th sport crash – Carlos Pardo Dies In NASCAR Racing Crash

In one of the most tragic and unusual finishes in auto racing ever, NASCAR Mexico driver Carlos Pardo was involved in a terrible sport crash with only a few laps remaining, leaving his car in hundreds of pieces, ending the race, earning himself the victory, and eventually taking his life.
The race in Pueblo was on the 97th lap when Pardo was nudged from behind, causing him to spin out right into the wall at the pit lane entrance at an estimated 120 mph. He was eventually removed from the wreckage and taken to the hospital by helicopter where he died 45 minutes later. Pardo was later awarded the victory as the race was called due to a time limit after the crash.

8th sport crash – 1958: United players killed in plane crash

Seven Manchester United footballers are among 21 dead after an plane crash in Munich.
The British European Airways (BEA) plane caught fire shortly after take off this afternoon with 38 passengers and six crew on board.
The footballing world is reeling from the loss of some of its most talented young players – known as the Busby Babes.

Their average age was 24 and they included Roger Byrne – the captain – Mark Jones, Eddie Colman, Tommy Taylor, Liam Whelan, David Pegg and Geoff Bent. Eight British sports journalists and several club officials have also been killed.
The Queen has said she is “deeply shocked” and has sent a message of condolence to the Lord Mayor of Manchester and Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation.
The chartered aircraft was bringing the Manchester United entourage back from a European Cup match against Red Star Belgrade in Yugoslavia and had stopped at Munich’s Riem Airport to refuel.
On the third attempt to take off the plane over-shot the runway, hit a house with its port wing, veered to the right, hit another building and burst into flames.
The fuselage did not catch fire and several crew and passengers went back into the wreckage to rescue the injured.
Team manager Matt Busby was described as being the most seriously hurt and is being given blood transfusions in hospital.

One of the biggest sport crash of all time.
1902 – Ibrox Park, Glasgow: 25 are killed and 517 injured when the West Stand collapses during an international between England and Scotland. The game ends in a 1-1 draw but is later erased from official records.

10th sport crash - May 9, 2001 – Accra, Ghana

Not even the impact of a giant school bus into the wall can compare with what was witnessed on this track just east of Mexico City. That was one of the saddest sports accidents.

The incident followed a period of six laps where the drivers had been under the control of the safety-car and it was clear from the on-board camera on Michael Schumacher’s Benetton that Senna’s car was suffering from a notable loss of traction as the race restarted.

Suspicion also surrounds the events that led to the fatal accident and the question of whether Senna was actually dead when his body was flown from the circuit.The conspiracy theories
Television pictures of the last couple of seconds before the impact have never been available for viewing by the general public. The host broadcasters have always maintained that the director switched away from Senna’s on-board camera, quite coincidentally, approximately 1.5 seconds before the impact. However, rumours are rife that the footage does exist and that they clearly show Senna trying to turn the steering wheel of the car without any resultant movement at the wheels. Other stories tell of the Senna looking down into the cockpit of the car in the instant before it left the track and even the steering wheel itself coming off in his hands.
